Can the marshmallow esophagram replace high-resolution manometry as an appropriate screening for esophageal motility prior to anti-reflux surgery?
2022, American Journal of SurgeryCitation Excerpt :To this date, there are no clearly defined criteria for evaluating the HRM results for anti-reflux candidacy purposes.7 For the past 20 years, surgeons and gastroenterologists have evaluated HRM results with the concept that the optimal surgical procedure could be selected based on the manometric findings, i.e., whether it was appropriate to put a 360° fundoplication around an esophagus with abnormal motility.8 Despite the importance of HRM findings to surgical selection, a standardized protocol has not been implemented to help guide these decisions.
