Menstrual Dysfunction in Adolescents with Chronic Illness: A Systematic Review
2023, Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent GynecologyFactors associated with pubertal growth outcomes in cystic fibrosis: Early Growth and Puberty in CF
2023, Journal of Cystic FibrosisGynecologic health care for females with cystic fibrosis
2021, Journal of Clinical and Translational EndocrinologyCitation Excerpt :Research on the menopausal transition and post-menopausal gynecologic health is still lacking for females with CF. Puberty was reported to be delayed in females with CF in older studies with mean age of menarche ranging from 14.2 to 14.9 years [1–5]. However, more recent studies found a closing of this gap.
Puberty in cystic fibrosis
2019, Journal of Cystic FibrosisCitation Excerpt :Studies during the 1970s through the early 2000s continued to report delayed puberty in the CF population, Table 1. Findings of delayed breast and testicular development [5–9], delayed age at menarche [5,10–13], and delayed pubertal growth spurt [7,13,14] were reported. Some groups found a correlation between delayed puberty and nutritional status or severity of pulmonary disease while others found no specific associations.
Female reproductive health in cystic fibrosis
2019, Journal of Cystic FibrosisCitation Excerpt :According to a recent estimate, girls with CF have a mean age at menarche of 13.1 years, compared to 12.4 years in the general population [18]. In the 1980s, approximately one-quarter to one-half of women with CF were estimated to have oligomenorrhea [16,19] or dysfunctional uterine bleeding [16] and one-quarter to one-third of women with CF were estimated to have a history of secondary amenorrhea [19,20]. However, these women with CF were likely significantly less healthy than current-day women with CF; therefore, further studies are necessary to identify modern estimates.
