This is in agreement with other studies showing that supplementary oxygen does not eliminate periodic breathing in subjects acutely exposed to normobaric or hypobaric hypoxia, but contribute to down oscillations in ventilatory and cardiac pattern (Lahiri et al., 1983; Berssenbrugge et al., 1983). This pattern of instability with oxygen modified the values of ‘Duty Ratio’ <1 (0.50 ± 0.04), with a maintenance of loop gain close to 2, similar to that describe in subjects without oxygen supplementation.
