2001, American Journal of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :These values increased to 74% and 73%, respectively, when patients who had HCTZ added to their therapy were included in the analysis. The reason for the difference between the results reported by Thurston et al18 versus those of Morgan et al19 is not clear but, taken together, these data indicate that perindopril is at least as effective as a β-blocker for the treatment of hypertension. Although types of adverse events had by patients treated with perindopril versus β-blockers differed (cough was most common in the former patients and sleep/mood disturbances occurred most often in the latter group), ACE inhibitor and β-blocker therapy were both well tolerated.
