The clinicopathologic characteristics and outcome of atypical anti-glomerular basement membrane nephritis
2016, Kidney InternationalCitation Excerpt :Still, these 2 variants of atypical anti-GBM nephritis may represent different entities with a different pathogenesis. Occasional cases of anti-GBM nephritis that lack a diffuse crescentic phenotype, similar to our cases, can be found in the literature.17,18–28 Most of these cases showed mesangial hypercellularity or unremarkable glomeruli.
Alveolar Hemorrhage and Rare Infiltrative Diseases
2015, Murray and Nadel's Textbook of Respiratory Medicine: Volume 1,2, Sixth EditionAntiglomerular basement membrane disease with normal renal function
2007, Kidney InternationalCitation Excerpt :Individuals with anti-GBM disease and renal impairment or pulmonary hemorrhage are generally treated with plasmapheresis and immunosuppression to preserve any residual renal function and to control bleeding; following a course of treatment, antibodies disappear and rarely recur. Patients with anti-GBM disease and normal renal function have a good prognosis when treated aggressively; indeed, treatment is indicated when there is hemoptysis5,7 or when renal histology is changed.11 Although the use of less aggressive strategies or supportive treatment has only occasionally been associated with spontaneous recovery and persistently normal renal function,5,10 this approach is not recommended.
