Shared decision-making and the duration of medical consultations: A systematic review and meta-analysis
2023, Patient Education and CounselingCitation Excerpt :After screening titles and abstracts, 159 full-text articles were retrieved for a detailed eligibility assessment. Eventually, a total of 63 studies met the inclusion criteria: 28 randomized clinical trials [32–59], 7 quasi-experimental studies [60–66], and 28 cross-sectional studies [15,67–93]. The flow of study inclusion and reasons for exclusion are presented in Fig. 1.

2018, Patient Education and CounselingSafety and efficacy of tiotropium in children aged 1–5 years with persistent asthmatic symptoms: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
2018, The Lancet Respiratory MedicineCitation Excerpt :We recorded improvements in efficacy outcomes in children in all treatment groups, suggesting that all children benefited from participation in the study, although tiotropium and placebo did not show significantly different improvements of asthma symptoms after 12 weeks analysed either with conventional statistics or by a multivariable pattern-recognition PCA. The universal improvements across groups might be a reflection of increased adherence to background medication or a general improvement in asthma care associated with regular study visits.21,22 Establishing efficacy is difficult in this age group, mainly because of the few available assessments of efficacy parameters that are considered reliable and consistent across this population.
The antecedents, forms and consequences of patient involvement: A narrative review of the literature
2016, International Journal of Nursing StudiesCitation Excerpt :This theme includes articles concerning the role of communication in relation to patient involvement. Communication can alter patient behavior to promote proactivity and involvement (Adams et al., 2001; Molassiotis et al., 2007; Naik et al., 2008; Timmermans et al., 2006). To promote adherence and shape patient behavior, physicians and nurses use a number of communication strategies, such as positive or negative reinforcement, that may be either direct or indirect (Sahlsten et al., 2009, 2007; Smith et al., 2005).
Interpersonal Psychosocial Factors Associated With Underreported Dietary Energy Intake in Hemodialysis Patients
2013, Journal of Renal NutritionCitation Excerpt :Prevalence of underreporters in our study was >50%, which was similar to previous studies.5-7 Our findings are also similar to those of Adams et al.25 and Stewart et al.26; they found that better interpersonal relationships, which may generate feelings of communality, security, and trust, are related to better patient outcomes. In addition, studies on interpersonal relationships clarified that better interpersonal relationships are associated with better adherence to weight control in dialysis patients.27
