Lung compliance and resistance have been demonstrated to differ between infants with and without BPD,13,45,46 but most of these studies were undertaken before the routine use of surfactant. Recent studies suggest that BPD survivors continue to have airway obstruction and lower forced expiratory volume in 1 second even as late as young adult life.47
