The role of granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor in hospitalized children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia
2018, Journal of Infection and ChemotherapyCitation Excerpt :In present study, GM-CSF was strongly associated with MPO in hospitalized children with MPP and could enhance MPO activity in neutrophils from children with MPP. A previous study reported by Zipfel et al. [24] demonstrated that MPO in neutrophils with or without N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine can be activated by GM-CSF which is similar to our study. Taken together, M. pneumoniae attached to bronchial epithelium cells leads to GM-CSF production and high expression of GM-CSF recruits and activates neutrophils with MPO release.
Rapid and reliable determination of the halogenating peroxidase activity in blood samples
2014, Journal of Immunological MethodsCitation Excerpt :II) Several (patho-)physiological conditions including severe inflammations and pregnancy can lead to a temporary in-activation of heme peroxidase activity (Lanza, 1998; Kutter, 1998). Such an “acquired peroxidase deficiency” is commonly also detected by unspecific measurement of ROS production (Odobasic et al., 2007; Zipfel et al., 1997; Kusenbach and Rister, 1985). Therefore often only the general oxidative burst of granulocytes is addressed rather than the specific share of heme peroxidases in this process (Winterbourn, 2013; Freitas et al., 2009).
Peroxidase-mediated biodegradation of carbon nanotubes in vitro and in vivo
2013, Advanced Drug Delivery ReviewsCitation Excerpt :As demonstrated by in-test-tube results, innate peroxidases, such as MPO in neutrophils and EPO in eosinophils, play a pivotal role in oxidative degradation of CNTs. Under natural inflammatory response, neutrophils are attracted and activated by chemoattractants at the inflammatory sites, and MPO is released thus being able to act both intra- and extra-cellularly [57]. H2O2, which originated from NADPH oxidase, forms inside the phagosome, activates MPO, and leads to the production of reactive enzymatic intermediates and oxidants (e.g. hydroxyl radicals, HClO, etc.) [53], both of which are responsible for CNT degradation.
Bovine herpesvirus type 1 infection of bovine bronchial epithelial cells increases neutrophil adhesion and activation
2009, Veterinary Immunology and ImmunopathologyReconstitution of bactericidal activity in chronic granulomatous disease cells by glucose-oxidase-containing liposomes
2001, BloodCitation Excerpt :Compared to the direct incubation of GOLs with CGD granulocytes, the amount of produced HOCl was still 15% after removal of nonincorporated GOLs, indicating that a considerable part of GO is taken up by the granulocytes. The degranulation assay using the ADVIA120 flow cytometry system36 did not show evidence that MPO is degranulated under liposomal influence. However, it cannot be completely excluded that a small amount of HOCl is produced outside the cell because of some extracellular membrane binding of GOLs and a small spontaneous release of MPO.
