Increased risk of Legionella pneumonia as community-acquired pneumonia after heavy rainfall in 2018 in west Japan
2021, Journal of Infection and ChemotherapyCitation Excerpt :However, regarding the causative pathogens, there were significantly more patients with Legionella pneumonia post disaster than pre disaster, although there were no significant differences in the number of patients with CAP caused by other pathogens. Some studies have reported that the number of patients with respiratory infections increases after a natural disaster [7,8,24,25]. Among these studies, one examining the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 reported a 5-fold increase in the number of pneumonia hospitalizations compared with the usual number, along with an increased risk of death due to pneumonia [7].
Clinical features of patients with decompensated heart failure after the Great East Japan earthquake
2013, American Journal of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :Our present data were concordant with a previous report showing that patients with HF after the earthquake had lower renal function, greater systolic blood pressure, and a tendency to use fewer β blockers.12 Previous studies have reported an increased incidence of infectious diseases, wound infection, infectious enteritis, and pneumonia after natural disasters, and these diseases constitute a major public health problem.16–18 Furthermore, the nutritional status worsens owing to the lack of food supplies and digestive dysfunction caused by stress.
Characteristics of infectious diseases in hospitalized patients during the early phase after the 2011 great east japan earthquake pneumonia as a signifi cant reason for hospital care
2013, ChestCitation Excerpt :However, > 90% of patients with diseases of the genitourinary system (N90-N99) were hospitalized for the purpose of hemodialysis. In previous reports of natural disasters, the time trend of injuries differed from that of infectious diseases.1,11–13 Thus, we also examined injury rate over time compared with that of infectious diseases.
