Effects of acute psychological stress induced in laboratory on physiological responses in asthma populations: A systematic review
2017, Respiratory MedicineCitation Excerpt :Active stressors, such as mental arithmetic task, are associated with a withdrawal of PNS, as suggested by the decreases in RSA [14,15]. Although active stressors were associated with sympathetic activation, they did not seem to be associated with the expected concomitant bronchodilation, considering the little or no effect on peak flow [15,32,51,52], FEV1, [48,55] or %FEV1. [31,35] Active stressors were also found to have mixed effects on respiratory rate, with some studies showing an increase [14,35,53] and others showing no changes [37,49].
