Lipoxins and other arachidonate derived mediators in bronchial asthma

Table 1

Eicosanoid generation from transcellular metabolism

  • AM = alveolar macrophages; PMN = polymorphonuclear cells; PBM = peripheral blood monocytes; LXs = lipoxins; HETE = hydorxyeicosatetraenoic acid; UTA = untreated asthma; SDA = steroid dependent asthma; ND = non-detectable metabolite amounts.

  • Cells were stimulated by A23187 after addition of 15(S)-HETE (3 × 10−6 M). Results are presented in ng for 106AM, 107 PMN, and 5 × 106 PBM, except for 5(S),15(S)-diHETE which is expressed as a percentage of the amount of 15(S)-HETE initially added. The results are expressed as mean (SE).

  • Significant differences only are reported:

  • 1-150 p<0.02,

  • 1-160 p<0.005,

  • 1-165 p<0.0005.
